Charles will introduce us to parkour training; a form of fitness and dexterity training that employs natural (yet under-utilized) movements to effectively navigate the environment. He addresses some misconceptions about parkour and describes its practical advantages. He also brings a thought provoking perspective regarding the sedentary lifestyle, play behavior and social norms.
Charles Moreland is the original co-founder of Rochester Parkour. After spending three years learning to sculpt the classical figure out of clay, wax, and molten iron and bronze, he spent his final year studying anatomy and physiology before graduating from The Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and Exercise Physiology.Charles is also a personal trainer at RIT and an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with hundreds of previous clients. He was a gymnastics coach for several years and holds a 1st degree black belt in taekwondo.In addition to the parkour gym, Charles has been teaching parkour to the Rochester community since 2008 for free via the Manhattan Square Park Saturday jams.
